Una ortofoto consisteix en una fotografia aèria vertical amb escala constant i propietats d’una projecció ortogonal, elaborada a partir d’un mosaic d’imatges aèries rectificades. Per tant una ortofoto té les propietats mètriques d’un mapa i la informació d’una fotografia, i a més està georeferenciada, el que permet poder superposar-la amb altra informació geogràfica de caràcter ràster o vectorial. Aquesta ortofoto d'alta resolució està elaborada a partir de dos vols fotogramètrics: un primer realitzat el mes d'agost de 2022 que va sobrevolar el litoral metropolità nord i un segon realitzat el mes de setembre de 2022 que va sobrevolar el litoral metropolità sud, i abasta les platges de l’àrea metropolitana de Barcelona (excepte el Port de Barcelona).
