Agrological capacity of soil v1.0 - May 2025

Classification of soil according to its agrological capacity (ability to sustainably produce the most common crops in an area), in one of the 8 classes established by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia).

Simple

Date (Creation)

Identifier
IDEC / capacitat-agrologica-v1r0-202505
Purpose
The objectives of this geoinformation are: To plan and to establish control measures and/or restrictions regarding the implementation of certain types of activity or land use, such as the installation of photovoltaic plants; Facilitate the sustainable production of food of agricultural origin; and Make it possible to carry out operations and queries of territorial analysis or incidence with other sets of geographic information data, with the possibility of generating other layers of information and reports.

Evaluation method description
The compliance of the metadata is evaluated using the "INSPIRE Reference Validator" web tool. The metadata is considered correct when the only errors reported are related with the main language of the metadata file. These errors are due to the fact that Catalan is not included in the list of official languages of the European Union.

Statement
Classification of soil in one of the eight classes established in the system (I-VIII), based on its characteristics and those of the environment where it is located (Klingebiel and Montgomery, 1961). These classes, initially defined by the Soil Conservation Service of the United States Department of Agriculture, are adapted to the conditions of Catalonia according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain and are modified according to the Ministry of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia).
Description
The agricultural capacity units are obtained by assigning one of the 8 classes established by the Generalitat de Catalunya to each of the cartographic units of the 1:25 000 Soil Map of Catalonia, according to the Klingebiel evaluation system and Montgomery of 1961, taking into account its characteristics and those of the environment where it is located (Appendix A of the technical specifications). Those units that cannot be evaluated due to lack of soil information are classified as "Miscellaneous areas not evaluated".
