This geoinformation is a cartographic document that provides a global view of the country's soil structure and offers, in a synthetic form, information on the distribution of soils in the territory, their morphologies, and their physical, chemical and biological characteristics.

- The compliance of the metadata is evaluated using the "INSPIRE Reference Validator" web tool. The metadata is considered correct when the only errors reported are related with the main language of the metadata file. These errors are due to the fact that Catalan is not included in the list of official languages of the European Union.

- The map is the result of a synthesis of the soil data available at the time of its preparation, in 2018. This process, carried out by the ICGC, has consisted of the compilation, analysis and correlation of the cartographic information obtained in the different soil mapping projects that have been carried out in Catalonia since the 1970s. The synthesis of the information of the areas for which a more detailed cartography was available, basically made up of the areas mapped since 1983, at a scale of 1:25,000, prepared by the DARP, and the most recent cartographies that, since 2005, the ICGC has been preparing within the 1:25,000 Soil Map program, have served as the basis for developing the conceptual soil-landscape model of some pilot areas. Over time, these models have been refined with cartographies at other scales available in different areas of the territory, as well as with various soil studies, reports and articles that, despite not being conceived for cartographic purposes, have provided valuable information.
