MN08000_904 - Ecosystems services cartography erosion control
Mapping of the erosion regulation service representing the capacity of ecosystems (mainly vegetation) to retain soil and prevent its gradual or sudden erosion (landslides). Due to the lack of empirical data, an approximate quantification based on the potential erodibility index and generic values of soil cover capacity to control erosion was chosen. A polygon layer has been created.

Domain consistency
- Name of measure
- Compliance with INSPIRE requirements (metadata)
- Evaluation method description
- The compliance of the metadata is evaluated using the "INSPIRE Reference Validator" web tool. The metadata is considered correct when the only errors reported are related with the main language of the metadata file. These errors are due to the fact that Catalan is not included in the list of official languages of the European Union.

- Statement
- The service can be quantified in biophysical units, for example, through the amount of soil retained (kg/ha and year) by vegetation. However, this biophysical quantification is, in general, difficult to perform due to the lack of empirical data. It is for this reason that, in this case, an approximate quantification based on the potential erodibility index (SITxell) and generic values of soil cover capacity to control erosion based on expert knowledge (Burkhard et al., 2012) was chosen. Intersection of the SITxell potential erodibility layer with the habitat layer (CHC50). . Creation of a new field CD_VEG (binary 0-1) to distinguish habitats with vegetation or without vegetation (identification from the description of each habitat according to: http://www.ub.edu/geoveg/cat/descarrega_mapes_habitats.php ). . Creation of a new field CD_CEROSIO (numeric 0-4) from the categories of erodibility (field DS_EROSIO) in each habitat and whether it contains vegetation or not from the field CD_VEG. The categories of this new field are: 0 => No vegetation cover; 1 => Negligible erodibility with vegetation; 2 => Low erodibility with vegetation; 3 => Medium erodibility with vegetation; 4 => High erodibility with vegetation). . Creation of a new field CD_CEROS_1 (numeric 0-5) from the values of soil cover capacity to provide erosion control service (according to Burkhard et al., 2012). Previously, a correspondence between CORINE and Catalan habitat categories was developed based on the description of each habitat. Creation of a new field CD_CEROS_2 (numeric 0-20) from the product between the values of CD_CEROSIO and CD_CEROS_1. (Resulting categories: 20 => very high erosion control to 0 => very low erosion control).
