Description

The dataset referred to in this metadata corresponds to the entire territory of Catalonia. Its horizontal extension is described in this metadata in geographical coordinates with the minimum and maximum longitude and latitude of the minimum rectangle containing the cartography scope. It is, therefore, an approximate geographical area. The time extension refers to the dates of capturing the images (start and end dates). The capture dates of all the images that contributes to the mosaic of Catalonia are detailed in the quality section of this metadata file.

L'Ortoimatge Sentinel-2 de Catalunya es distribueix en quatre fulls, que no solapen entre ells (sense intersecció). Els quatre fulls són: Nord-Oest (01), Nord-Est (02), Sud-Oest (03), Sud-Est (04). Statement

The original images used to make the seasonal Sentinel-2 satellite orthoimage are recorded by the Sentinel-2A and Sentinel-2B satellites in various orbits, rectified radiometrically and geometrically and with atmospheric correction applied using software from the ESA, and organized in granules or tiles of 100x100 km with UTM projection and time zone orientation. The images needed to cover the territory of Catalonia in a specific seasonal period of the year (summer, winter ...) are downloaded from the ESA Copernicus Open Access Hub, selecting those with fewer clouds and no discontinuities between tiles (caused by atmospheric correction) to avoid the maximum number of artifacts (clouds, etc.), and a composition of them is made using a mosaic according to cut lines that may be irregular and that define the contributions of each image in the resulting orthoimage.

Description

To make the winter mosaic 2019-2020, images have been sought in order to show the snow-capped Pyrenees at their high altitudes, that is, the usual elevations of maintaining snow during the winter period, looking for snowy coherence between the images. from the western zone (orbit R051) and eastern (orbit R008). In the rest of the territory it is sought that there is no snow. This mosaic has been obtained by combining scenes in the period from early January 2020 to early March 2020. Specifically, for the eastern part (orbit R008) has basically used the image 2020-02-22 (the eastern part of the Pyrenees comes almost entirely from this image) and the 2020-03-08 image, to remove small parts of clouds on the coast in the image above. Very punctually the image of 2020-01-08 has served to fix small artifacts. For the western part (orbit R051) the image 2020-02-05 has basically been used, except for the part of the Pyrenees where the image 2020-02-20 has been used. Data of 2019 and 2020 from Sentinel Copernicus, owned by the European Space Agency (ESA).
