Seasonal orthoimage of Sentinel-2 satellite 10 m v1.0 - Summer 2019
Mosaic of the territory of Catalonia made from rectified images, with a spatial resolution of 10 meters, captured in a specific seasonal period of the year (summer, winter ...) by the multispectral sensor (MSI) of the Sentinel-2A and Sentinel-2B satellites in the framework of the Copernicus program, with radiometric correction applied and a minimum number of artifacts. Contains information on the red, green, blue bands of the electromagnetic spectrum. This mosaic is only distributed as an 8-bit natural color orthoimage.

- Description
- The dataset referred to in this metadata corresponds to the entire territory of Catalonia. Its horizontal extension is described in this metadata in geographical coordinates with the minimum and maximum longitude and latitude of the minimum rectangle containing the cartography scope. It is, therefore, an approximate geographical area. The time extension refers to the dates of capturing the images (start and end dates). The capture dates of all the images that contributes to the mosaic of Catalonia are detailed in the quality section of this metadata file.

Domain consistency

- Compliance with INSPIRE requirements (metadata)
- Evaluation method description
- The compliance of the metadata is evaluated using the "INSPIRE Validador" Web tool, "Conformance Class 2" test. The metadata is considered correct when the only errors reported are related with the main language of the metadata file. These errors are due to the fact that Catalan is not included in the list of official languages of the European Union.

- Statement
- The original images used to make the seasonal Sentinel-2 satellite orthoimage are recorded by the Sentinel-2A and Sentinel-2B satellites in various orbits, rectified radiometrically and geometrically and with atmospheric correction applied using software from the ESA, and organized in granules or tiles of 100x100 km with UTM projection and time zone orientation. The images needed to cover the territory of Catalonia in a specific seasonal period of the year (summer, winter ...) are downloaded from the ESA Copernicus Open Access Hub, selecting those with fewer clouds and no discontinuities between tiles (caused by atmospheric correction) to avoid the maximum number of artifacts (clouds, etc.), and a composition of them is made using a mosaic according to cut lines that may be irregular and that define the contributions of each image in the resulting orthoimage.
- Description
- To make the 2019 summer mosaic, the balance between having the Pyrenees free of snow and, at the same time with little elongated shadows, substantially reduces the choice of images. We have the period with less snow well into the summer, at the end of August and September. However, at the end of September the shadows are already becoming too large and very marked. This mosaic has been obtained by combining scenes within the period from late June to early October. Specifically, for the eastern part (orbit R008) the images 2019-08-16 (northeastern part) and the image from 2019-06-27 (southeastern part) have been used. For the western part (orbit R051) the image 2019-09-03 has been used basically and to a certain extent (in the most southwestern part) the image of 2019-07-05. A patch has also been made in the north-central zone, near the overlap zone between the two orbits, using the image 2019-10-08. Data of 2019 and 2020 from Sentinel Copernicus, owned by the European Space Agency (ESA).
