NDVI v1.0 - 2019
Orthoimage representing the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), with a resolution of 1 m. This index makes it possible to estimate the quantity, quality and development of vegetation, based on the normalized difference between the radiation reflected in the infrared band of the electromagnetic spectrum with respect to the red band of the visible spectrum. This set of information is distributed in 2 by-products: Real NDVI orthoimage, where each pixel takes the real value of the index in question (between -1 and 1), in such a way that it facilitates exhaustive studies but requires advanced software; 8-bit NDVI orthoimage, where each pixel takes the value of the index in question but discretized to an integer range between 0 and 200, so that it facilitates an overview.

- The objectives of this geoinformation are: To determine different aspects related to the state of the vegetation: growth of the plants, vegetal covers, volume of biomass, or determination of the state and location of the urban green; Facilitate the knowledge and interpretation of the evolution of the territory from various areas, especially the environmental and biological, as well as enable the performance of temporary analyzes of changes in vegetation in a context of climate analysis; Carry out operations, consultations and analyzes related to vegetation and facilitate their representation on a map.

- Description
- The dataset referred to in this metadata corresponds to the entire territory of Catalonia. Its horizontal extension is described in this metadata in geographical coordinates with the minimum and maximum longitude and latitude of the minimum rectangle containing the cartography scope. It is, therefore, an approximate geographical area. The time extension refers to the dates of capturing the images (start and end dates).

Domain consistency
- Name of measure
- Compliance with INSPIRE requirements (metadata)
- Evaluation method description
- The compliance of the metadata is evaluated using the "INSPIRE Validador" Web tool, "Conformance Class 2" test. The metadata is considered correct when the only errors reported are related with the main language of the metadata file. These errors are due to the fact that Catalan is not included in the list of official languages of the European Union.

- Statement
- NDVI orthoimages are generated from images obtained by a photogrammetric aerial camera, capable of obtaining information not only from the visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum but also from the near infrared, and with a pixel size spanning about 25 cm above the ground. By combining the information captured in the red and near-infrared band, following the formula below, NDVI is obtained, which is the value assigned to each pixel: NDVI = (near-infrared - red) / (near infrared + red). Then, the images are geometrically rectified, based on a 5 m resolution terrain elevation model, and a mosaic is made to obtain a continuous orthoimage of the whole of Catalonia that ends up covering 1 m of the territory for each pixel.
