- Purpose
- The main objectives of this geoinformation are: To facilitate the carrying out of studies of biodiversity and coastal ecology (influence of slope orientation on the environmental conditions of the coast, dynamics of dune habitats, regeneration of vegetation after storms and the location of species sensitive to the microclimate, etc.) which at the same time allow planning of environmental conservation and restoration strategies, and assess the impact of climate change on coastal biodiversity; To facilitate the calculation of flood risk and other risks where knowledge of the relief is essential; To provide a reference base for the development of any activity that has a territorial impact and that must take relief into account. They are especially relevant in the field of technical activities, management, planning or administration of the territory; Carry out spatial analysis operations with other sets of geographic information, especially in 3D.

- Compliance with INSPIRE requirements (data)
- Evaluation method description
- The data of this dataset do not aim to achieve compliance with INSPIRE regulations. For this reason, its conformity is not evaluated and it is declared not conformant compliant by default.

Domain consistency
- Name of measure
- Compliance with INSPIRE requirements (metadata)
- Evaluation method description
- The compliance of the metadata is evaluated using the "INSPIRE Reference Validator" web tool. The metadata is considered correct when the only errors reported are related with the main language of the metadata file. These errors are due to the fact that Catalan is not included in the list of official languages of the European Union.

- Statement
- The orientation model is obtained from a terrain elevation model (MET), which represents the bare surface of the terrain. This MET can be produced in different ways, but, generally, those of the coast are derived from lidar point clouds. The method used in each case is specified in the metadata lineage of each publication. The process for obtaining the orientation model from the MET consists of: 1. Gradient derivation: the slope in the X and Y directions is calculated using finite difference methods on the regular MET grid; 2. Calculation of the orientation angle: from the gradients, the angle in degrees with respect to true north is determined, which is translated into a cardinal direction (N, NE, E, SE, etc.); 3. Assignment of values per cell: each pixel in the model receives an orientation value between 0° and 360°, where 0° corresponds to north, 90° to east, 180° to south and 270° to west. Additionally, a colored orientation model is generated by assigning RGB values to each pixel according to the interval (of orientations) in which it is located and the established legend.
