Geological 3D model of the Vallès Basin v1.0
Geological 3D model of the Vallès Basin, developed as part of the ICGC’s Deep Geothermal Energy (GeoEnergia-GP) project. More specifically, this model includes lithological units, major geological structures, the locations of exploration and thermal water extraction wells in Caldes de Montbui and Samalús, and the topographic surface of the project area.

- Purpose
- The main objectives of this geoinformation are: To boost the implementation and management of deep geothermal resources; To promote knowledge of the subsurface, to disseminate information about the deep geothermal resources available in Catalonia and to facilitate the management and protection of groundwater as both a water and thermal resource; To enable analysis operations and queries, with the possibility of generating other layers of information and reports.

- Description
- The eastern part of the Vallès Basin. Specifically, from the Vallès-Penedès fault and the La Garriga thrust at the northwestern boundary of the model area to the edge of the Coastal Range (Serra Litoral) in the southeast. It includes the towns of Sabadell, Granollers, La Garriga, Cànoves and Samalús among others. Temporal extent refers to the dates of the source information.

Domain consistency
- Name of measure
- Compliance with INSPIRE requirements (metadata)
- Evaluation method description
- The metadata is reviewed for compliance with the INSPIRE specifications, in accordance with the criteria defined in the current Technical Guides. The metadata is considered compliant if the only notices identified are related to the use of Catalan as the main language of the register, a language that is not included in the list of languages provided for in the INSPIRE directive.

- Statement
- The primary objective of this study was to generate a preliminary 3D geological model (3DGM) based on available data. For this purpose, Aspen SKUA v.15 (5.0.0.0) software by Aspentech was used, incorporating all available input information (geological contacts, dips, 3D surfaces from previous models, etc.). Once the initial data were integrated and the preliminary 3D geological model (3DGM) was obtained, the model was validated. Using 3DGeoModeller v.4.2.0 software by Intrepid Geophysics, validation was performed through geophysical inversion of the gravity field, taking into account the petrophysical parameters (rock density) of each lithostratigraphic unit considered. This process involves iteratively calculating the probability that each cell or voxel within the 3D model belongs to one of the defined units. The result is a probabilistic 3D geological model that honors all the data; from this, a 3D voxel model can be derived, which could subsequently be used for further 3D thermal modeling analysis.
