Coastline lidar v1.0 - March-April 2024

Cloud of lidar points (3D) of the emerged coastal strip, with an average density of 15 points/m2.

Simple

Identifier
IDEC / lidar-litoral-v1r0-202403-202404
Purpose
The main objectives of this geoinformation are: To carefully monitor the evolution of the coastline and its changing conditions; To enable the evaluation of the changes that occur in the coastal environment over time or due to the effects of storms, and thus be able to determine the preservation policies of this environment in constant evolution due to human action and the effects of climate change; To obtain models of terrain elevations and surfaces, as well as realistic 3D visualizations of the territory; To facilitate the calculation of the risk of flooding and other risks where knowledge of the relief is essential; To provide a reference base for the development of any activity that has a territorial impact and that must take the relief into account. They are especially relevant in the field of technical activities, management, planning or administration of the territory; To carry out spatial analysis operations with other sets of geographic information, especially in 3D.

Domain consistency

Name of measure
Compliance with INSPIRE requirements (metadata)
Evaluation method description
The compliance of the metadata is evaluated using the "INSPIRE Reference Validator" web tool. The metadata is considered correct when the only errors reported are related with the main language of the metadata file. These errors are due to the fact that Catalan is not included in the list of official languages of the European Union.

Statement
The cloud of points is captured with a lidar sensor, calibrated and adjusted with topographic control areas, in order to obtain an altimetric accuracy with a mean square error of about 6 cm in flat areas with little vegetation. Each lidar point is associated with the date and time of capture (absolute GPS time). The data are distributed in 1x1 km blocks, although within the same block there may be points with different flight dates. Each block is calibrated and adjusted with the control areas. An initial automatic classification of the adjusted points is carried out with the aim of separating the noise and the escaped points —both high and low— that do not represent real elements of the terrain. A basic classification is then applied to distinguish the points corresponding to the terrain and buildings from the rest. To facilitate this process, the terrain is previously segmented according to the morphology of the terrain: flat, normal slope or steep slope, and according to the presence of large buildings. Subsequently, a specific classification of the points located on bridge platforms is carried out, using vector information on the location of these elements. The process continues with a final classification that identifies and assigns the points corresponding to vegetation and water to their respective classes, also generating auxiliary classes. Finally, a quality control of the classified point cloud is carried out, focusing on the evaluation of the automatic classification of the terrain, buildings and water classes. In the case of the water class, the errors detected are corrected manually.
