- The objective of the 2009 Land Cover Map of Catalonia with simplified legend to 41 classes is: 1- To be the seed of the Land Cover Base of Catalonia to carry out spatial, temporal and thematic analysis operations with other sets of geographic information; 2- Know the territory; 3- To be supporting information for monitoring compliance with environmental regulations and policies such as NATURA 2000; 4- Assess the occupation of the land in each place, to be able to apply the assessment to ecological and also economic points of view; 5- Obtain the forest or crop area at county, municipal level, in natural parks, etc.; 6- Carry out urban and territorial planning studies, for the design and assessment of the environmental impact of infrastructures, irrigation plans, etc.; 7- Generate maps and reports from spatial data; 8- Make it easier for the public to consult and download information from the data sets described at local and regional level.
