Geographical names v1.1 - September 2024
Toponyms (place names) present in the cartography of the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia, such as the names of municipalities and heads of municipalities, population centres and isolated buildings, facilities and equipment, relief elements (oronyms), hydrographic network and point hydrography (hydronyms), protected areas and other unique elements of the territory; with the coordinates of the point where they are located.

- Evaluation method description
- The compliance of the metadata is evaluated using the "INSPIRE Reference Validator" web tool. The metadata is considered correct when the only errors reported are related with the main language of the metadata file. These errors are due to the fact that Catalan is not included in the list of official languages of the European Union.

- This set of information is extracted from the Database of Geographical Names of Catalonia, where the ICGC integrates all the geographical names present in the cartography it produces, which come at the same time from a field collection that it carried out between the years 1984 and 1995 and its subsequent revisions and updates. In this database, the toponyms are classified according to general geographical concepts and according to the type of element they designate, they are linked to the administrative units where they are located, and have associated the closest coordinates available for the element (they can refer to the same geographical element or to the toponym; in the latter case, the coordinates can correspond to cartographic representations of the toponym at different scales). From all the toponyms collected, are selected those that names geographical elements of the types indicated in Annex A of the technical specifications, and that can be associated with a point.
